History

On April 26, 1947, Archbishop William Duke called Frs. Cajetan Riedmeier and Martin Mueller to establish a new parish on Lulu Island (Richmond) to be given to the Augustinian Order. The German Province approved this request in late summer 1947. Fr. Riedmeier was the pastor of the new parish. The Augustinian Order acquired a house at 1230 Cambie Road to serve as St. Monica’s rectory where the first Sunday Mass was celebrated on the third Sunday of Advent, 1947. The Augustinian Order handed over the pastoral care of St. Monica to the Archdiocese on June 1, 1984. Archbishop Adam Exner, OMI, consecrated the present church on May 18th, 2002.
